Our Trip to the Recycling Depot

Our class had a wonderful trip to the Recycling Depot today.  The morning started off learning about how we can reduce, reuse and recycle.  We sorted some materials to see which ones can be recycled and which ones can't.  (If you're wondering, our area can recycle plastics with the numbers 1, 2, 4 and 5, but not the other three numbers. That was educational for all of us!)  The kids learned how to look for numbers on the materials and decide whether or not to put it in the blue bag.  We also got to walk around the plant and see recycling in action:  the conveyor belt, machines moving materials, trucks getting weighed, and locals sorting their own materials at the drop off center.

Time to reuse some materials and make a craft together.  The kids made some adorable eagles with toilet paper rolls.

After recycling, we stopped at the park for a snack and some playtime before heading back to school.  I snapped a few pictures of the kids who were on the twirling monkey bars; a new experience for most of them.

Thanks so much to all of our parent volunteers!  We couldn't have done this without you!
