This week, we had our first field trip to the Recycling Depot. We did some sorting of materials and found out what things can and can't go into our local blue bags. Did you know that plastics have to be number 1, 2, 4 or 5? Some of our students are excited to teach their families about just what is and isn't allowed in those bags! We also got a tour of the recycling plant from the outside. Unfortunately, most of the staff was on break when we came by, so we didn't get the see the conveyor belt in action. Our final activity was making a fish from recycled materials. When we got back to class, we took a photo with our fishies and made some fishy faces to go with it!
